Immigrants from Mexico Become Canadian Citizens

At a Canadian citizenship ceremony held on August 15, 2019, in Edmonton, Alberta, 53 immigrants became new citizens of Canada. Among the permanent residents who were granted Canadian citizenship was a family of four from Mexico. Luis and his wife Maria relocated to Edmonton with their two sons 13 years ago and said it was worth the wait to become Canadian citizens. Maria explained, “It has been a long journey for us, but I’m really proud” She also said, referring to her sons, “We want a better life for them, it’s a safe place.” After taking the oath to become new citizens of Canada, the Martinez Family posed for a photo with a Mountie, proudly displaying their Canadian citizenship certificates and holding maple leaf flags.
